Where are you at

asked that many times. And the one thing that gave me encouragement that it could happen for me, was that I saw other people enjoying financial success. When I looked at some of the people who were successful I saw that they did not quit, like I had at times. And now, years down the road they were enjoying the fruit of their labor.

It’s darkest before the dawn.

This thought has helped me to hold on when things have felt very difficult and I felt like giving up and going home. Because I have found it to be true.

When things seemed to be at the lowest point with my blog and business, with my dating life or with my motivation in life in general something always happened.

Probably quite often because being at that low point forced me to change something in how I did things.
But maybe also because life seems to have some kind of balance if I just keep going. If I just keep taking action instead of giving up and doing nothing then something good always happens.

Seeing this repeat itself strengthened my belief in taking action and to keep going even on rough days or weeks. And it brings some comfort even when things look pretty dark.

Attitudes towards people

Having a winning attitude towards people means that you want to build up people and add value. So you show love to others. You want to enrich them. When you have finished talking to a person, you want that person to feel richer for having been in your presence.

Being friendly, polite, patient and encouraging, whether people are nice or nasty.

It means seeing the positive things in others. And treating them as if it were their birthday - every day. Building them up at every opportunity.
These are great attitudes to strive for

Believe in yourself

Every day brings new experiences that you can add to your learning. The wealth of experience and knowledge you have accumulated over the years, plus the things you have already achieved, will help you accomplish goals that you never even dreamed were possible.
Believe in your ability to do awesome things. Don't worry about how you'll get it right, just start telling yourself that you can reach incredible goals. You can achieve your dreams. Each of us has to start believing that we can. We need to see ourselves as achievers.
When you have that kind of mindset, and a wild idea pops into your mind, you won't say: "I could never".You'll think: "That sounds like a great idea. Why don't I try that?"
Believe in yourself.

your better future

As you grow personally: developing your attitudes, skills and character, you will become more of what you were born to be.

To do the great things that you were born to do, you need to become more. A character that can persevere when everything inside of you wants to quit. Goal directed and focused so you are not sidetracked by the irritations of life.

Growing in humility so that you don’t become arrogant and drive others away. At the same time, having a belief in yourself and a trust in your Creator because when things are not working, you need to keep believing and working hard.

struggling financially

Negative people can keep you in poverty, by their comments.

Yet, the wealthy don't listen to the negative comments of others. They set their financial goals and see themselves achieving them. Before they start a venture they do their due dilegence. In the same way, when you learnt about Be Motivated Today,  or any other business that you started on, you did your homework. You also read or heard testimonies of people who are succeeding. You realized that it could work. So you set some goals and you got started.

You probably have had negative people who have criticized you and told you that you would not succeed. Yet the facts are that other people are succeeding and all you need to do, is follow what successful people are doing.

But if you follow the negative comments of your critics, you will only end up where they are - still struggling financially.

winners

Winners take chances.

Like everyone else, they fear failing, but they refuse to let fear control them.
Winners don't give up.

When life gets rough, they hang in until the going gets better.
Winners are flexible.

They realize there is more than one way and are willing to try others.
Winners don't blame fate for their failures, nor luck for their successes.
Winners are patient.

They know a goal is only as worthy as the effort that's required to achieve it
Winners are people like you.

They make this world a better place.

How to Boost Confidence

How to Boost Confidence

The first motivation killer is a lack of confidence. When this happens to me, it’s usually because I’m focusing entirely on what I want and neglecting what I already have. When you only think about what you want, your mind creates explanations for why you aren’t getting it. This creates negative thoughts. Past failures, bad breaks, and personal weaknesses dominate your mind. You become jealous of your competitors and start making excuses for why you can’t succeed. In this state, you tend to make a bad impression, assume the worst about others, and lose self confidence.
The way to get out of this thought pattern is to focus on gratitude. Set aside time to focus on everything positive in your life. Make a mental list of your strengths, past successes, and current advantages. We tend to take our strengths for granted and dwell on our failures. By making an effort to feel grateful, you’ll realize how competent and successful you already are. This will rejuvenate your confidence and get you motivated to build on your current success.

It might sound strange that repeating things you already know can improve your mindset, but it’s amazingly effective. The mind distorts reality to confirm what it wants to believe. The more negatively you think, the more examples your mind will discover to confirm that belief. When you truly believe that you deserve success, your mind will generate ways to achieve it. The best way to bring success to yourself is to genuinely desire to create value for the rest of the world.

reality check

We all wish that everything would work out perfectly, according to our ideals. It does not always. Whether it's the job, our spouse, the kids or our health. Nothing is perfect. And we can't just trade them in. At least one can change boy/girlfriends, but you can't swap the kids for better behaved ones. But we can choose to be thankful for the good things we have. Then we face the music with courage, improve our skills, have a great attitude anyway and make the most of life - make it happen.

Staying motivated

Staying motivated is a struggle — our drive is constantly assaulted by negative thoughts and anxiety about the future. Everyone faces doubt and depression. What separates the highly successful is the ability to keep moving forward.
There is no simple solution for a lack of motivation. Even after beating it, the problem reappears at the first sign of failure. The key is understanding your thoughts and how they drive your emotions. By learning how to nurture motivating thoughts, neutralize negative ones, and focus on the task at hand, you can pull yourself out of a slump before it gains momentum.

Despite your best efforts, passion, habits and a flow-producing environment can fail. In that case, it’s time to find whatever emotional pump-up you can use to get started. Here are a few:
  1. Go Back to “Why” – Focusing on a dull task doesn’t make it any more attractive. Zooming out and asking yourself why you are bothering in the first place will make it more appealing. If you can’t figure out why, then there’s a good chance you shouldn’t bother with it in the first place.
  2. Go for Five – Start working for five minutes. Often that little push will be enough to get you going.
  3. Move Around – Get your body moving as you would if you were extremely motivated to do something. This ‘faking it’ approach to motivation may seem silly or crude, but it works.
  4. Find the Next Step – It’s impossible to work on a project. All you can do is focus on the next immediate step. Fighting an amorphous blob of work will only cause procrastination. Chunk it up so that it becomes manageable.
  5. Find Your Itch – What is keeping you from working. Don’t let the itch continue without isolating it and removing the problem. Are you unmotivated because your tired, afraid, bored, restless or angry. Maybe it is because you aren’t sure you have time or delegated tasks haven’t been finished yet.
  6. Deconstruct Your Fears – I’m sure you don’t have a phobia about getting stuff done. But at the same time, hidden fears or anxieties can keep you from getting real work completed. Isolate the unknowns and make yourself confident you can handle the worst case scenario.
  7. Get a Partner – Find someone who will motivate you when you’re feeling lazy. I have a friend I go to the gym with. Besides spotting weight, having a friend can help motivate you to work hard when you’d normally quit.
  8. Kickstart Your Day – Plan out tomorrow. Get up early and place all the important things early in the morning. Building momentum early in the day can usually carry you forward far later.
  9. Read Books – Not just self-help or motivational books, but any book that has new ideas. New ideas get your mental gears turning and can build motivation. Learning new ideas puts your brain in motion, so it requires less time to speed up to your tasks.
  10. Get the Right Tools – Your environment can have a profound effect on your enthusiasm. Computers that are too slow, inefficient applications or a vehicle that breaks down constantly can kill your motivation. Building motivation is almost as important as avoiding the traps that can stop it.
  11. There are No Small Problems - The worst killer of motivation is facing a seemingly small problem that creates endless frustration. Reframe little problems that must be fixed as bigger ones, or they will kill any drive you have.
  12. Develop a Mantra – Find a few statements that focus your mind and motivate you. It doesn’t matter whether they are pulled from a tacky motivational poster, or just a few words to tell you what to do. If you aren’t sure where to start, a good personal mantra is, “Do it now!”
  13. Build on Success – Success creates success. When you’ve just won, it is easy to feel motivated about almost anything. Emotions tend not to be situation specific, so a small win, whether it is a compliment from a colleague or finishing two thirds of your tasks before noon can turn you into a juggernaut. There are many ways you can place small successes earlier on to spur motivation later. Structuring your to-do lists, placing straightforward tasks such as exercising early in the day or giving yourself an affirmation can do the trick.

supportive environment

Build a supportive environment.

When ads, magazines and other media over and over tell you that you can reach a goal very quickly – lose 30 pounds in 10 days! – you may start to expect such results. But in reality it is often a bit messier and takes more time and effort than that.

So start recreating the environment you live in. Discard some of your old input that just frustrates you in the end. Add new sources that support delaying gratification.

Start to read blogs that keep your motivation and optimism up but also focus on long term progress.
Read books from people who have done what you want to do. People who can paint a picture of what you may encounter based on experience and give you a more accurate time-frame for success.
Talk to the people in your life or outside of it that seem to be good at delaying gratification. See if they have some strategies and tips that can help you.

If you can get accountability partner that helps you to stay on track with for instance your diet or building your own business then that can be very helpful too.

Adjust your expectations with the help of your new environment and use the environment for support when you feel like giving up or giving into an instant gratification impulse.
Detach from of the outcome and learn to find the pleasure in the journey
.
When I lost 26 pounds in 2009 and over the years as I have built this blog I have created and used an environment that supported the long term work. But when I have actually done the exercising or writing, day after day and week after week, I have detached from the outcome.

I first got this tip to detach from the ancient Sanskrit Hindu scripture Bhagavad Gita. It says:
“To action alone hast thou a right and never at all to its fruits; let not the fruits of action be thy motive; neither let there be in thee any attachment to inaction”

This tells me to understand that I cannot control the results of my action. I can’t control how someone reacts to what I say or what I do. And that I should do what I do just because it is something I want to do rather than because of some outcome I’d like. But at the same time I should not let these two ideas lead me to become passive and get stuck in sitting on my hands and not taking action at all.
Basically, I do what I think is right and that is my responsibility. And then the rest (the possible results), well, that is not up for me to decide about or try to control. I let it go.

Now, I apply this when I do something. I can get motivated by future results before the doing the activity. But when I start doing any of those activities I detach and change how I think. I just focus on showing up and doing. This may sound a bit weird or hard but after a while it gets easier and easier to do that shift in your mind and to not start projecting into the future while you are doingsupportive environmentsupportive environment

plan for money

If your plan for money for your next emergency is to scoop up the change that falls between the cushions, you might want to come up with a better plan to add to that stash. It is always a good idea to have a little extra for the lean times. Rainy days could be just around the corner. That's when rainy-day funds become necessary!

Here are 3 clever, and virtually painless, ways to put aside some money now!
1. Put aside a large envelope, cookie tin, coffee jar or something similar. At the end of every week, throw a couple of dollars inside. By the end of your first month you should have some extra cash put aside to have a nice start on an emergency fund.

The most important thing when doing this is: Don’t count it or spend it.
Place it somewhere that is hidden away. Put it somewhere that you won’t be tempted to dip into it.

2. The next time you treat yourself or your family to a meal out, tip yourself! Just as you tip the waitress 10 to 15 percent, put the same amount aside for yourself. When you get home, stash it away in your cookie jar. Every time you go through a fast food window, put a dollar away for that cookie jar, too!

3. Next time you pay off that big-ticket item like a new car or tuition, continue to make the payments to yourself! Set up a savings account and each month slip the ghost payment into it. Watch as it builds nicely.

Keep putting away money for the rainy day

25 ways to be motivated

1. Make a deal with yourself. Good for overcoming procrastination and getting things done. You can make the deal small or large. You simple tell yourself something like: When I’m done with this chapter/these reports I can take a walk in the park and enjoy an ice-cream.
2. Act like it. If you don’t feel motivated or enthusiastic then act like it. The strange thing is that within a few minutes you actually start to feel motivated or enthusiastic for real.
3. Ask uplifting questions in the morning. Here’s what you do; every morning ask yourself five empowering three-part questions this way:
What am I ______ about in my life right now?
What about it makes me _______?

How does it make me feel?
Put in your own value in the blank space. For instance, a couple of my questions are:
What am I happy about in my life right now?
What am I excited about in my life right now?
It’s important that you really feel how it makes you feel. When I think about the last part about what makes me happy right now I really feel it. These morning questions are great because the way they are set up makes you recognize things you take for granted and then they really get you to feel those positive feelings.
4. Move the goalposts. Set a large and specific goal. This will motivate you much more than small goals. A big goal has a big effect and can create a lot of motivation.
5. Do something small and create a flow. Just clean your desk. Or pay your bills. Or wash the dishes. You just need to get started. When you have finished that small task you’ll feel more alert and ready to go do the next thing. You just to get started to get motivated. So if you really don’t feel like doing anything, start with something small and work your way out up.
6. Do the toughest task first. This will ease a lot of your day-to-day worries and boost your self-confidence for the rest of the day. Read more about doing the hardest task bright and early right here.
7. Start slow. Instead of jumping into something at full speed start slow. When you do that your mind will not visualize the task as something hard that you have to do fast, fast, fast. If your mind sees such things guess what often happens? Yep, you don’t get started. Actually getting started, even if it’s at a slow pace, is a whole lot better than not getting started at all.
8. Compare yourself with yourself. Not with others. Comparing what you have and your results to what other people have and have accomplished can really kill your motivation. There are always people ahead of you. Most likely quite a bit of people. And a few of them are miles ahead. So focus on you. On your results. And how you can and have improved them.
Reviewing your results is important so you see where you have gone wrong in the past to avoid similar missteps further on. But it’s also important because it’s a great motivator to see how much you have improved and how far you have come. Often you can be pleasantly surprised when you do such a review.
9. Remember your successes. And let them flow through your mind instead of your failures. Write down your successes. Consider using a journal of some kind since it’s easy to forget your successes.
10. Act like your heroes. Read about them, watch them, listen to them. Discover what they did that was special and what made them tick. But remember that they are people just like us. So let them inspire you instead of looking up at them admiringly.
11. Remember to have fun. Or create fun in a task. Then you’ll stay motivated to do and finish it.
12. Get out of your comfort zone. Face your challenges to get a real boost of motivation. If you are holding yourself back have a look at 5 Life-Changing Keys to Overcoming Your Fear and the methods in this article. They can help you get started and take that first scary step outside your comfort zone.
13. Don’t fear failure. Instead redefine it as feedback and as a natural part of a successful life. As Michael Jordan said:
I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
Also, try to find the valuable lesson(s) in each of your failures. Ask yourself: What can I learn from this?
14. Do some research on what you are about to do. Then your expectations will be more grounded in reality and you can also get good hints on what difficulties that you might run into along the way. Managing your expectations can lower the often almost explosive initial enthusiasm. But it can also lessen the lack of motivation that usually follows when most of that enthusiasm has dissipated.
When you know what has happened to others in similar situations – what path they have walked – you can adapt and try their solutions (and personal variations of those) and your own. This makes the worries and challenges easier to handle. Both emotionally – since you know at least some of the things that will happen and that others have lived through it before – and practically.
15. Figure out why you´re doing something. If you don’t know or don’t have good enough reason to do something then it will be hard to get it done. Do things that you have really strong reasons to do. If you want to do something then figure out a good reason to do it. If you can’t find one consider dropping it and doing something that you have a good reason to do instead.
16. Write down your goals and reasons for working towards them. Tape them on your wall, computer or bathroom mirror. Then you’ll be reminded throughout the day and it becomes easier to stay on track and stay focused.
17. Take The Positivity Challenge! Learn to think more positively most of the time. Learn to let to go of negative threads of thought before they have a chance to take hold of you. You might not be able to be positive all the time no matter what happens. But I think most of us can improve on our positive thinking and the results it can lead us to. Perhaps more than you realize right now.
18. Cut down on TV. Do you watch it too much? Watch less of what they are doing in TV-land and do more of what you want to do in life.
19. Break it down. Break down your task or project into small steps. And just start with focusing on that first small step. When you are done move on to the next and just focus on that one. The small successes will keep your motivation up and keeping your focus away from the big picture stops you from becoming overwhelmed and discouraged. It’s amazing how much you can get done if you follow this simple method.
20. Reprogram your information intake. Program out negative and cynical thoughts from the media and society. Reduce your information intake. Then program in positive news and entertainment, more of your own thoughts and useful information such as personal growth tapes and books. Be selective and keep it positive.
21. Make use of your creativity. Take out a piece of paper. Write at the top of the page what area in your life you would like to have more ideas about. Perhaps you want ideas to earn more money or become a healthier person. Then brainstorm until you have written down 20 ideas on that topic. Then try for 10 more. Not all ideas will be good. But some will. And as you make use of your creativity you not only discover useful ideas. You also discover just how creative you can be if you try and how motivating and great that feels. Have a look at 8 Ways to Spark Your Creativity for more ideas on this topic.
24. Think outside your box. Don’t imagine the future from the box of what you have now. Just because your mind is in box of previous experiences doesn’t mean that´s the limits of the world. Your possibilities are much larger. Create the future from the now and from nothing rather than your past to experience bigger changes with fewer limitations than you would if you created it from what you can see from your box.
25. Make each day count. We don’t have all the time in the world. So focus on today and do the things you really want to do.

Passive Income

Ways of Creating a Passive Income

Food is up.

Fuel is up (if its not, it will be again soon).

Clothes are up.

Interest Rates are up (if they're not, they will be again).

Flights are up.

Property is up.

School fees are up.

Salaries are NOT.

The cost of living has sky-rocketed and you need more money to live comfortably.

You probably would like to have an extra few THOUSAND Dollars per month. But you

don't have the time or energy to earn that extra income.

Passive income is the answer.

WHAT PASSIVE INCOME WILL GIVE YOU

Besides the rising cost of living, there are other reasons why you would like to earn an

extra income, and more specifically, passive income.

You would love to make a few hundred or thousand Dollars extra every month

to combat the rising cost of living, to spoil yourself or enjoy some extra luxuries,

like: weekends away, a few more romantic dinners, an overseas holiday, more

manicures and massages, or a few more "toys" like a quad bike, jet-ski or a

laptop computer.

You want to start creating a passive income stream while you are still holding

down a job. Your goal is to get to a point where your passive income can

replace the income from your full-time job. Then you quit your job and can start

pursuing your passion, without having to worry about finances.

If you are a working or single Mom, you would much rather be at home, raising

your children. But you have to work to pay all the bills.

Perhaps you are a stay-at-home Mom. You don't need to, or cannot find work,

but simply would love to earn some extra income every month to have more

financial independence.

You would love to quit your job and have financial freedom. Working in a job

may provide a regular income, but most times that income is not enough and

you lose your freedom. You have to do things you don't like to do: be at the

office at a certain time, take lunch and coffee breaks when you are told, and

work late on short notice. Often you are not appreciated, and taken advantage

of.

You are frustrated because you have struggled financially. You are sick and

tired of "being sick and tired". You really want to change your financial future.

You are sick and tired of:

Living in debt;

Worrying about your financial future;

Not having money at the end of the month;

Not being able to spoil yourself whenever you want to;

Working for a boss;

Having to leave your children in day-care all day while you fight the traffic

and your job; and

Not enjoying overseas travel.

You want to develop a passive income to provide for your retirement, because

you realize that you have not saved enough to adequately cover your

retirement needs.

Lastly, you would like to earn some extra money, but don't have time to start a

business or the money to invest huge capital. You need something requiring

very little effort and low overheads.

Perhaps you can identify with one or more of the above situations. You are looking for

something that will take you to another financial level.

When you earn enough extra income from passive income streams, you still have

time for other important things.

Creating a passive income stream will give you more money and the time to do the

things you want to do. But above all, it will radically improve your lifestyle without

having to work more hours.

What is Passive Income

A passive income is an income that is not related to your efforts. In other words,

earning money without having to directly work for it. With passive income, the

, whether you work or not.

In
"Rich Dad Poor Dad", Robert Kiyosaki explains that if you want to be financially

secure you have to develop many passive income streams. As long as your income

is dependent on your efforts, you are always at risk. If your company retrenches you,

you have no more income.

To have a passive income, you have to
invest (time or money) in the

beginning
and then you will be paid for it for the rest of your life.

Of course, you have to invest in something that will provide a continuous income. I

have learned from hard experience what is worth investing in and what is not.

Rand/US Dollar Exchange Rate

Rand/US Dollar Exchange Rate

Since September 2011 the Rand/Dollar exchange rate has been increasing. In December 2011 it stabilized at around R8 to 1 USD. In all this time Be Motivated Today members, paying in Rands, have paid a consistent R70 for their monthly subscriptions. As the exchange rate has now been stable at around R7.60 to 1 USD we believe it is time to adjust our deductions accordingly.

From 27 March we will be using an exchange rate of R7.60 to 1 USD. The fact that we have kept the exchange rate at R7 for the last 7 months means that Silver Members, paying in Rands, have saved +- R55 in this time. We have been gracious to our members during this time and believe that the increase is in no way unrealistic or unfair

Don't wait for others to work on your challenges. They won't. They couldn't care less. OK, not fair, I know. Some may really care. But the person who cares the most, is you.
Do something. Don't let one more day go by without taking control and working towards a solution to your frustration. You can. You have the potential. You are not destined for frustration, but for success

Find solutions. Chat to a friend, go to the library or google it. Do what you need to do. But find some solutions.

Then plan for the change you want. And start working on it. You will probably face obstacles. But don't accept defeat. You can improve any situation

I am amazed at how few people have written goals and plans for their life. I should not be surprised, because up until a few years ago, although I had goals, I did not have the plans for my goals. Now that I have some detailed plans, things are humming. I'm more motivated, energised and enthusiastic than ever before.

Just set 1 or 2 really exciting goals, things that really get you moving and are in line with your purpose. Work out detailed plans and then follow the basics of hard work, perseverance and self-belief. Watch what happens. Before you know it you will be making some great headway towards your goals

Here is a short video clip taken from one of my motivational talks on persevering. It will motivate you to keep going.

Ever noticed how things don't always work out the way you would like them too?
That's life. We all know it, but often forget it.

The challenges we face can sometimes get us down and depressed. That is normal too. No one is motivated and on top all the time.

We all have days where we want to quit. That is OK. Sometimes the disappointments and challenges of work or a business can cause that to happen.

But the difference between success and failure, is that successful people DO NOT QUIT. They know that they just need to hang in there. In a few days things will be different. New motivation will come.

You are a successful person. You face your challenges and have a different perspective. You see the big picture. You see yourself a year from now, having reached your goals. You know that whenever anything is worth it, there will be challenges and you just need to keep working at it.
Whatever you face right now, just keep working at it. The success will come.
